The New "Grand Old Party" (GOP)

I would like to say congratulations to the Republican Party. For decades the GOP wouldn't listen to any views from people of color and women. Now all of a sudden the new GOP has a person of color as the Chairman of the party, Michael Steele. The response to President Obama's speech was a person of color, Governor Bobby Jindal. The new GOP picked an unknown female Governor from Alaska, Sarah Palin to run as Vice President with John McCain. Does anybody other than me smell the stench of TOKENISM here? The three people I mentioned are "see no evil", "hear no evil", or "just dumb". I’ll leave it to the readers of this article to place these three people in the correct characterization.

I intend to cover an array of subject matters in this article, so I apologize beforehand for my wordiness to those of you who have a short attention span.

We all know Republicans are peeved about losing control of Congress, the Senate, and the Presidency. But should that be an excuse for resorting to comparing the President to a chimpanzee being shot dead by White policemen? We have people on Fox News like Bill O'Reilly and Bernard Goldgerg debating on the failure of President Obama's Stimulus Bill. Less than a year ago Bill O'Reilly started his show (The O'Reilly Factor) on a daily basis with talking points about how the left want America to fail in Iraq. Mr. O'Reilly went so far as to say, "these people should be charged with treason." Now that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dick Morris, Bernard Goldberg, and yes Bill O'Reilly himself are hoping President Obama fail as President; the call for treason is deafening by the silence. Here's where some will call on me to apologize, I'm going on a rant about Fox News. Everyday I see and hear complete idiots like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity just outright lying to their listeners and viewers. The avid listeners and viewers of these two clowns are at a distinct disadvantage, the listeners and viewers are drinking the Jim Jones KOOL-AID without the benefit of intellect.

If President Obama Presidency fail, I refuse to point the blame at the Republicans. If the President fail, it will be 90% the fault of the Black community. The main reason I feel this way is this, it's not enough that at last we have a Black person as President. Our job in the Black community has a duty to prove to the world that we are worthy of having a Black person as President. Tuesday night after the President gave what I consider one of the best speeches ever, reporters were asking members of Congress and the Senate how will the Stimulus Bill help people in your district. To my disappointment Rep. Barbara Lee who represents Oakland, CA. said absolutely nothing about how jobs in her district will hopefully slow down, or perhaps put a stop to the Black on Black crime in Oakland. There are Mayors, elected officials sending out pictures on u-tube of the White House showing the front lawn of the White House as a water melon patch. Instead of noticing what some Whites think of us, we're too busy committing Black on Black crime, and disrespecting each other. Those of us in the Black community need to take what I consider the first step; the first step to me, is we need to start by respecting ourselves. It is a known fact to any clear thinking person, if one doesn't respect themselves, there is no way they have the ability to respect others. I fully understand with the economic crisis which led to a flood of home foreclosures, economically things are tough. But what I've witnessed with these abandoned homes, they're being turned into drug castles. If we as a community don't work together to take back our neighborhoods, the first Black President will fail.

A few words about 'The Fairness Doctrine" which some say is a threat to The First Amendment, and the right to keep and bear arms (The Second Amendment). Here's my thoughts on The Fairness Doctrine: Let's be clear on this, the only reason some on the left has a desire to reinstate The Fairness Doctrine is because right wing talk radio has established an ability to invigorate their base with their hatred and racist talk. The people on the left hasn't figured out a way to neutralize the rhetoric coming from the Limbaugh's, the Hannity's, the O'Reilly's, and other nut cases on the right spewing hatred and racism. In my opinion it would be a bad idea for Democrats to go on a campaign to reinstate The Fairness Doctrine. In today's climate, every time Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity open their mouths, they do damage to the Republican party. Democrats going on a campaign to curtail whatever right wing radio says is a sign of weakness, if anything, Democrats should be encouraging right wing talk radio to keep doing what they're doing.

My thoughts on The Second Amendment: First of all when we have a complete idiot like Lou Dobbs with a platform to tell outright lies to the American public with statements like, "the Democrats have declared war on The Second Amendment." What Attorney General Eric Holder is calling for, a law that every hand gun to be registered. Nobody is talking about taking away anyone hunting rifle, although, after an eleven year old shot and killed his soon to be pregnant Step Mother a few days ago with a shotgun he received as a gift; perhaps it's time for us as a people to re-think what we do and say to our children to make them happy.
